The Thematic Workshop on Accountability Frameworks for Violations of IHL is designed to enhance the capacity of humanitarian practitioners, taking into account their variety of roles and mandates with respect to achieving accountability for IHL violations. It will address the various types of mechanisms, be they IHL-specific or others, such as human rights mechanisms, the MRM 1612 UNSC resolution, and domestic or international criminal courts and tribunals. It will consider the differences between IHL violations and war crimes when seeking accountability and the various types of actors to be held accountable. The Workshop will also look into the strategies, actions, and challenges to achieve accountability for IHL violations, including the relationships between the various mechanisms, in particular the International Criminal Court.
